CEDAR FALLS, Iowa —The University of Northern Iowa's Local Food Program sponsored a Farm Crawl on Sept. 8 to give Cedar Valley residents a chance to visit farms.

Chad and Melanie Thomas, of Waterloo, welcomed visitors at A Family Market Place. The couple grows and sells fresh produce on eight acres. They also sell brown eggs, chickens, rabbits, goats, guinea pigs, flowers, home-baked goods and offer catering on a limited basis.

Jan and Bruce Jefferson own Jefferson Greenhouse and Orchard on the farm that has been in Bruce's family for more than 150 years. The couple operates a seasonal greenhouse with flowers and vegetables and an orchard. They sell fresh produce and raspberries as they are available. During the winter, Jan paints unique barn quilts and gourds in their historic dairy barn.

Other participants were Hawkeye Buffalo Ranch, Frederika; Engelbrecht Family Winery, Fredericksburg; Pumpkin Paradise, Waverly; Hansen Dairy at Hudson; Hillcrest Farm, a Cedar Falls flower farm; Fitkin Popcorn at Cedar Falls; and Heartland Farms at Waterloo.
