HUTCHINSON, Minn. — Hutchinson is gearing up to host the Upper Midwest A-C Club's Orange Spectacular July 26-28 on the McLeod County fairgrounds.

The featured tractor will be the Model WC, which turns 80 years old this year; the Gleaner combine, developed 90 years ago; the 7000 series Allis Chalmers tractor; and the 50th year of the Early B-10 lawn and garden tractor.

The includes field demonstrations and women's and children's activities.

Randy Larson is president of the Upper Midwest A-C Club. His father had an AC D-14 and grew up near an Allis Chalmers dealership in Wisconsin.

"My heart has always been to the Allis Chalmers side," Larson said.

He grabbed the opportunity to purchase a 1998 Allis Chalmers raffle tractor in 2004. The catch was, he had to go to Minnesota to pick it up. He learned more about the Orange Spectacular and the Karg family who started the event on their Hutchinson farm. He met Larry Karg and learned about his collection of AC tractors and implements.

He came to the Orange Spectacular in 2005 and got involved with the group. Eventually he was elected to the board and became the club's president.

Attendance has averaged 6,500 with the 2011 "Gathering of the Orange" drawing 12,500 visitors.

Tractor parades are planned Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m., Larson said.

Saturday night activities includes a tractor pull at the grandstand and a chance for people.

There are numerous activities for women and children.

Children can enjoy barrel train rides, kick ball games and potato/gunny sack races the first day with coloring, face and hair painting, water target games, sandbox, ring and bean bag toss to name a few for Saturday.

Ladies activities include making new jewelry out of broken beads, decorating a home with antiques, how to make a bracelet and how to have a tea party. The "boutique" building will have new item for sale, crafts, blankets, jewelry, doll clothing, towels, rugs, candles, baskets and more for sale.
