On-farm calf workshops feature precision management

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and North Central Risk Management Education Center are sponsoring on-farm calf workshops in February and March.

—Feb. 10, 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Kevin and Gayleen Moellers 2845 310th Avenue Ridgeway.From Ridgeway, take Highway 9 west for 2 miles, then turn right onto 310th Street, drive 2 miles and calf barn is on the left. The Moellers will show their GEA auto-feeders utilizing pasteurized milk in a cross-ventilated facility.

—Feb. 10, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., Paul and Jody Stempfle, 16707 100th Street, Maynard. From West Union, follow Highway 150 south for 13 miles, then turn right onto 100th Street/ Highway 150 for 5.7 miles, farm is on the left. The Stempfles have a new individual stall calf barn utilizing a Milk Taxi for transport and pasteurization of milk.

—Feb. 11, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Pattison Dairy, 22127 Highway 52, Garnavillo. From Postville, follow US 52/US 18 east 15 miles, then turn right onto Highway 52 for 6.9 miles, farm is on the right.

Pattison Dairy will show its GEA Auto-feeders utilizing pasteurized milk in a hoop building.

—Feb. 11, 1:30-2:30 p.m., Gibbs Dairy, 1780 Gronna Drive, Waterville. From Highway 18, Monona, turn north on CR- X26/Falcon Avenue for 11 miles, then turn right onto IA-76 for 1.4 miles, turn left onto Waterville Rd/CR-X32 for 3.7 miles, then left onto Main St/Waterville Rd. for 2.6 miles, and right onto Gronna Drive for 0.6 mile, farm will be on the left. The Gibbs will show their DeLaval auto-feeders in a cross-ventilated facility.

—Feb. 17, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Virgil and Judy McNamara Dairy, 15213 County Rd X31 Anamosa.

From Anamosa go west on E Main St/CR- E28, turn right onto N Ford St/CR-X31 to 15213 CR-X31.

The dairy has an auto-calf feeder in a new facility.

—Feb. 17, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., Stoll Farms, 19995 Ebys Mill Road, Cascade. Take Highway 136 south of Cascade, 1.4 mi, turn right onto Ebys Mill Rd. go 3 miles on Ebys Mill (Rd becomes Richland Rd. for .7 miles) then returns to Ebys Mill Road. The Stolls have an auto calf-feeder in remodeled facility.

—February 18, 10:30to 11:30 a.m., Strief Dairy, 26250 Farm Lane Road, Farley. From Highway 20 go south on East Pleasant Grove Road 3.5 miles, right (west) to 26250 Farm Lane Road. The Striefs use a pasteurizer and auto-calf feeder in new facility.

—Feb. 18, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., Domeyer Dairy, 26862 Thunder Road, Holy Cross. From Main St. in Holy Cross, go left and head northwest on Thunder Road. The Domeyers use an auto-calf feeder in a remodeled facility.
