North Iowa FFA members capture top awards at Iowa FFA Leadership Conference

DES MOINES — North Iowa FFA chapters finished in first or second place in many of the career development and leadership events at the Iowa FFA Leadership Conference in Des Moines recently.
The Iowa FFA Discussion Meet Leadership winner was Holden Nyhus from the Forest City FFA Chapter. His agriculture education instructor and FFA advisor is Larry Vold. The second place individual for the event was Colin Hogrefe from the Sioux Central FFA Chapter. His agriculture education instructor and FFA advisor is Melanie Bloom.
The Hudson FFA Chapter was champion team in the Agriculture Communications Career Development Event. Members of the first place team are Ross Droppert, Kelly Whipps, Nick Davis, and Holly Halstead. Their agriculture education instructor and FFA advisor is Dennis Deppe.
Ag Broadcasting Leadership Event winner was Sarah Brandt from the Decorah FFA. Her agriculture education instructor and FFA advisor is Rick Twedt.
The first place individual for Ag Sales Leadership was Renee Knowlton from the Charles City FFA Chapter. Her FFA advisors are Jim Lundberg and Abbie Wiebbecke.
Tri-Star FFA Chapter finished second in the Ag Impact event. Their agriculture education instructor and FFA advisor is Steve Zaruba.
Nashua-Plainfield FFA finished second in Experience the Action. The team's agriculture education instructor and FFA advisor is Mr. Ron Zelle.
Wapsie Valley FFA at Fairbank had the top Treasurer's Book and finished second in Conduct of Meetings. The team's agriculture education instructor and FFA advisor is Ellen Doese.
West Lyon FFA Chapter at Inwood finished first in the Chapter Program Leadership Event. The team's agriculture education instructors and FFA advisors are Cathy Doorneweerd and Gary DeVries. West Lyon also won the team participation award in the Farm Management Career Development Event.
LaPorte-Dysart FFA Chapter finished second in the Chapter Exhibit. The team's agriculture education instructor and FFA advisor is Louis Beck.
Dustin Smith, Decorah, finished fifth in the Greenhand Quiz; Austin Pagel, Sumner, eighth; and Dylan Brockshus, Sibley, tenth.
Trey Forsyth of Charles City FFA finished first in Creed Speaking and Abrah Meyer from the Wapsie Valley FFA Chapter was second.
Sara Dillard of Spencer FFA won first place in Extemporaneous Speaking. Her agriculture education instructors and FFA advisors are Jerry Strand and Charity Mueggenberg.
Oelwein FFA members Anna Buenneke, Shaun Ledesma and Derek Stecklein finished first in Marketing Plan. Their agricultural instructor is Scott Smalley. Buenneke also finsihed first in Public Speaking.
St. Ansgar FFA finished second in Ag Issues and Perceptions and Parliamentary Procedure. Willie Weis of St. Ansgar FFA finished second place in Job Interview. Agriculture education instructor and FFA advisor is Andy Johnson.
Rockford FFA had the top Reporter's Scrapbook with Waverly-Shellrock FFA in second place. Rockford FFA advisor is Jym Hansen and David Carlson is FFA advisor at Waverly. Waverly-Shellrock also had the second place Secretary's Book.
