March 7 program to look at impact of local foods

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — A meeting that focuses on building strong community economic relations around locally grown foods will be 9 to 1:30 p.m. March 7 at the University of Northern Iowa Center for Energy and Environmental Education in Cedar Falls.
rnThe meeting will include an overview of new local food enterprises in the region, the economic impact of locally-grown foods, new economic development opportunities, addressing hunger, increasing access to good food and opportunities to work with others in the region.
rnSpeakers will be Rachel Wobeter and Kamyar Enshayan with the CEEE; Ken Meter, Crossroads Resource Center; and Barb Prather, Northeast Iowa Food Bank. New Hartford farmer Tim Daley and Shane Tiernan, of GNB Bank, will talk about Iowa Choice Harvest, a locally-owned freezing facility. The event includes lunch.
