What a difference the wet weather in the past two months has been compared to the eight months previous. Let's hope for a summer that has adequate moisture, but that it is disbursed evenly with plenty of sunshine and heat units as well.
Final Planting Dates
There has been some flooding and ponding in fields after the heavy rains in the last half of May. If you are considering replanting any crops, remember that the final planting date for corn has passed in Minnesota. The soybean final planting date is June 10. That means that until those dates, you are expected to attempt planting. After those dates, your coverage with your crop insurance will start to decline, but you might still be better off to attempt planting late versus filing for prevented planting. Check with your crop insurance agent for details of coverage.
Here's hoping you have a safe and productive 2012 growing season.
