GILFILLAN, MInn. — Two-thousand dollars of biodiesel will be given away at Farmfest Aug. 3-5.
Stop by the Minnesota Soybean booth, No. 618, or the Agricultural Utilization Research Institute booth, No. 612, to enter the drawing. Four prizes will be given away, each worth $500.
Drawings will be held daily. Winners will be contacted by phone after the show. Contestants must be at least 18 years old.
This contest is made possible by AURI and soybean checkoff funds invested by the Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion Council.
It's been a part of Farmfest for the last three or four years, said Veronica Bruckhoff, Minnesota Soybean field representative.
"It's really popular," she said. "We get tons of people who come down and visit us and look for it."
It draws attention to biodiesel, she said, and gets people to the Minnesota Soybean booth to talk about soybeans.
"We'll have quite a few farmers there working at the booth during the day," she said.
Joining them will be representatives from American Soybean Association, chemical company BASF, the United Soybean Board and Minnesota Pork Producers.
Minnesota Soybean Growers Associationmembers who stop by will receive free Mac Tools pliers and a coupon for a pork chop from Minnesota Farm Bureau, while supplies last. Members may also enter a drawing to win a Mac Tools tool box.
Minnesota Biodiesel Pull-Off
Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion Council is a premier sponsor of the Minnesota Biodiesel Pull-Off scheduled Aug. 3 at 6:30 p.m. on the Redwood County fairgrounds in Redwood Falls.
Organized by the United Puller's of Minnesota to support the Redwood County Fair Board, the event features seven classes of tractors, trucks and semis.
Pullers have the option to use petroleum-based fuel containing 10 percent biodiesel.
"It gives a higher cetane (so) tractors have more power," said Bruckhoff. "People will come with tanks empty."
The Redwood County Corn and Soybean Growers will give away a kiddie pedal tractor for a child under seven years old at the event.
"They have to be present to win," Bruckhoff said.
Tickets are available Aug. 3 at the fairgrounds beginning at 4 p.m. They cost $15 for adults and $10 for children ages 6 to 12. Kids five years old and younger get in free. The fairgrounds are in Redwood Falls.
