ROCHESTER, Minn. – The Zumbro Watershed Partnership, Whitewater Watershed Project and Olmsted, Dodge, Wabasha, Goodhue and Rice County Soil and Water Conservation Districts are partnering to offer information and resources on buffers and other conservation programs at the 28th annual Agri News Farm Show, March 24 and 25. The Farm Show is held in the Graham Arenas at the Olmsted County fairgrounds in Rochester.
The focus of the booth will be on getting information out about Minnesota's shoreland buffer rule, the benefits of shoreland buffers and programs to help farmers install buffers on their land. A number of technical staff will be available to answer specific questions.
Additionally, free nitrate testing for rural well owners will be offered at the booth from noon until 3 p.m. each day. Bring in a half cup sample of your water in a sealed container or plastic bag. For the most accurate results, allow the water to run five minutes to ten minutes before taking the sample. You can bring in your well water samples earlier or later than the testing times and we will call you with the results. Excess nitrates can be especially harmful for infants, young children or the elderly.
