PIPESTONE, Minn. — The Minnesota Beef Council honored Lange's Cafe of Pipestone with a 2013 Beef Backer Award presentation.
Colleen Zenk, director of nutrition and consumer information for the council, presented the Langes with the award at the Pipestone Performing Arts Center.
"The prestigious Minnesota Beef Backer Award is given annually to recognize establishments that set the highest standards in featuring and marketing beef," said Zenk. "The program, funded by the Beef Checkoff program, has been in existence for over twenty years and recognizes some of the finest restaurants in Minnesota."
The contest was called "Beef, It's What's for Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Late Night Snack." Peg Lange designed a poster to promote the contest using pictures of their grandchildren and other children from the area.
For the reception the Lange's chose Rueben bites, mini-taco shells, beef BLTs, bistro beef canapes, steak bites, flatbreads featuring beef toppings and beef sliders served on onion buns.
The landmark cafe has never closed its doors for the 57 years the Lange family has owned it. Guests for the evening had opportunity to relay their experiences with Lange's Cafe.
